Chapter 2: The Message I Was Never Supposed to See

Part 2 ⬇️
I didn't yell.
I didn't cry.
I just walked straight to the living room where Mark was watching TV and said, very calmly, "Your mother is in our bedroom right now wearing my lingerie."
He actually laughed.
"Clara, she probably just picked up the wrong thing by mistake."
That was the moment I stopped explaining myself.
I went back upstairs, stood in the doorway, and pulled out my phone.
Evelyn spun around and her face went white.
"You put that away," she snapped.
"Don't you dare."
"I'm just documenting what I found in my own bedroom, Evelyn."
She started talking fast — something about how I never made her feel welcome, how Mark deserved better, how this was really about the fact that I'd never been good enough for her son.
And then she said something that stopped me cold.
"He knows I'm right.
We've talked about it.
More than you think."
I looked at her.
"What does that mean?"
She smiled.
Just slightly.
And said nothing else.
That night, after the kids were in bed, I found Mark's phone on the kitchen counter.
A message thread I had never seen before.
The name at the top wasn't one I recognized.
But the last message made my stomach drop.

What was in that message — and who was Mark really talking to?
