Chapter 2: The Signature That Wasn't Hers

Grant didn't speak.
He just stood there, jaw tight, eyes moving between Megan and the woman like he was calculating which lie still had a chance of working.
The security officer stopped a few feet away and waited.
The blonde woman looked at Grant.
"Tell her."
Grant said nothing.
She turned to Megan.
"My name is Diane.
I've been with Grant for eleven months.
He told me you two had been legally separated since last spring.
He showed me paperwork."
Megan's voice was steady.
"What paperwork?"
Diane opened her handbag and pulled out a folded document.
Megan took it.
Her hands didn't shake — but her face changed the moment she saw the signature at the bottom.
Her own name.
Signed.
Except Megan had never signed anything.
She looked up at Grant.
"Where did you get my signature?"
Grant's jaw moved but nothing came out.
Then Megan's phone buzzed.
A text from her sister Carol:
*"Megan, call me right now.
I found something in Grant's office last week and I didn't know how to tell you.
I'm so sorry.
Please call me."*
Megan lowered the phone slowly.
The security officer stepped closer.
Grant finally spoke — and what he said made Diane step back like she'd been slapped.
