Chapter 2: The Second Clip

Part 2 ⬇️

I pressed play with shaking hands.

The timestamp showed 2:47 PM — twenty minutes before I walked through the door.

On the screen, the maid was folding laundry near the window.

The baby was in the stroller, calm and quiet.

Then Vanessa walked in.

She didn't check on the baby.

She grabbed the stroller and shoved it — hard — toward the hallway.

My stomach dropped.

The maid dropped everything and ran.

She caught the stroller less than a foot from the top of the stairs.

She pulled my baby out with both arms and dropped to the floor to shield her.

That was the position I found them in when I came home.

Vanessa had screamed first.

Pointed first.

Cried first.

And I had believed her.

I turned to look at Vanessa.

Her face had changed.

The crying had stopped.

She was watching me watch the video — and she didn't look sorry.

She looked calculating.

"It's not what it looks like," she said quietly.

My older daughter stepped closer.

"Dad.

There's a second clip."

Vanessa's eyes moved to the phone.

Fast.

Afraid.

Whatever was on that second clip — she already knew what it showed.
