Chapter 2: It Was Your —

Marco's answer came out low and careful.
"She fought her way through four of Sterling's men to reach that loading bay.
But that's not the part you need to hear."
Gabriel didn't move.
"Then what is?"
Marco glanced at Mia, then back at Gabriel.
"Before she drove out, she was in that storage office for nearly forty minutes.
Sterling's men were talking outside the door.
She heard everything."
The room went very still.
"She heard a name, Gabriel.
Someone on the inside.
Someone who told Sterling which vehicle Leo was in.
Someone who knew the convoy route before it was finalized."
Gabriel's jaw tightened.
"Who."
"She hasn't said yet.
She made it to the alarm panel and wrote four words on the inside of her wrist before she passed out." Marco paused.
"The physician wiped it when he cleaned her arm.
We only caught part of it on the entry camera."
Gabriel turned slowly toward the camera mounted above the door.
"What did it say?"
Marco pulled out his phone and held up a still frame.
The image was grainy.
Mia's wrist.
Four words in marker, the last one smeared almost beyond reading.
The first three were perfectly clear.
*It was your—*
The fourth word was gone.
From the couch, barely audible, Mia Carver whispered without opening her eyes.
"I remember the rest."
