Adrian's first word wasn't a name.
It was an order.
"Bring me the girl."
His head of security, Marco, stepped forward.
"Sir, the child is with her mother in the staff quarters.
They're both shaken.
The mother doesn't know what happened."
"I said bring her."
Ellie arrived holding Rosie with both arms.
Hannah followed two steps behind, her face white.
Adrian looked at the little girl from the bed.
"You gave me your medicine," he said.
Ellie nodded slowly.
"You needed it more."
"What if you need it next time?"
She thought about that seriously.
"Mommy says we'll figure it out."
Hannah's voice broke.
"Mr.
Moretti, I'm so sorry.
She wasn't supposed to leave the basement.
I didn't know she'd gone upstairs.
I didn't know any of it—"
"She saved my life, Mrs.
Carter."
The room went quiet.
Then Dr.
Greene cleared his throat.
"Adrian.
There's something else."
He held up a small evidence bag.
Inside it was a tiny blue vial — the same one Marco's team had recovered from the carpet near the overturned wineglass.
"This allergen doesn't come from a kitchen," the doctor said quietly.
"Someone brought it into this house deliberately.
Someone who knew exactly what it would do to you."
Adrian's eyes moved slowly to Marco.
"The hallway camera outside my study," he said.
"Who disabled it?"
Marco didn't answer immediately.
That half-second of silence said everything.
