Chapter 2: What the Cousin Didn't Ask

Part 2 ⬇️
Lorenzo sat very still, the capsule resting in his palm.
Mia watched him with those serious eyes.
She didn't ask questions.
She just waited.
He called his head of security.
One sentence: "Find Celeste.
Don't tell her why."
Then he called his neurologist.
"The capsule you described to me last year," Lorenzo said.
"The one that blocks nerve regeneration.
How long would someone need to administer it before the damage looked permanent?"
A pause.
"Lorenzo…
that's not something I should answer without knowing—"
"How long."
Another pause.
Longer.
"Three to four months of consistent exposure.
Hidden in food or drink, it would be undetectable without a specific panel.
No standard test would catch it."
Lorenzo looked down at the wheelchair.
Fourteen months.
He heard footsteps in the hallway.
Not Celeste.
Marco.
His cousin stopped in the doorway, saw the capsule in Lorenzo's hand, and went completely still.
He didn't ask what it was.
He didn't ask where it came from.
He just said, very quietly: "Where did you find that?"
And that was when Lorenzo understood.
It wasn't only Celeste.

What Lorenzo uncovered next put two people's lives — and his entire empire — at risk.
