Chapter 2: She Did It Before
Nora didn't answer.
She pressed her back against the wall, eyes darting toward the door.
Daniel grabbed her wrist.
"Tell me what was in that cup."
"Nothing." Her voice cracked.
"It was just tea.
I made it every morning—"
"Then why did it FOAM?"
Lily was still shaking.
She pressed herself against her father's leg and whispered something that stopped the entire room cold.
"She did it before, Daddy.
To Mommy."
Daniel went completely still.
"What did you just say?"
Lily looked up at him with wet eyes.
"I saw her.
In the kitchen.
Before Mommy got sick."
Nora lunged forward.
"She's a child — she doesn't know what she's saying—"
"Don't." Daniel's voice dropped to something dangerous.
"Don't you touch her again."
He looked at his daughter.
Then at the foaming tea still spreading across the marble floor.
His wife had been sick for months before she passed.
The doctors had called it sudden organ failure.
No one had questioned it.
Until now.
Daniel's hands were trembling when he reached for his phone — and that's when Nora said the one thing that should have been impossible for her to know.
