The father's hands were shaking.
He turned to his wife.
"You told her I said that?
You used my name to hurt my own daughter?"
She crossed her arms.
"I was protecting this family.
That girl causes nothing but drama."
"She's my child." His voice dropped low.
"She has been my child since the day she was born."
His daughter stood frozen at the edge of the stage, cap clutched to her chest, mascara running down her face.
Students and parents nearby had gone quiet.
Everyone was watching.
He stepped toward her.
"Sweetheart, I never said any of that.

"Then why didn't you come to any of my rehearsals?
Why didn't you answer my calls last week?"
