Chapter 2: What Was Waiting Downstairs

Part 2 ⬇️
I didn't go downstairs that night.
I sat in the dark beside Maya and listened to my mother and Julian laugh, clink glasses, and celebrate like men who had already won.
They hadn't won anything yet.
By 3 a.m., four of my most trusted men were already inside the estate.
They came through the service entrance.
No headlights.
No noise.
Victoria and Julian had no idea.
I went downstairs alone first.
Julian was sprawled on the sofa with my watch still on his wrist.
Victoria sat across from him, a half-empty bottle of champagne between them.
She looked up and smiled like nothing in the world was wrong.
"Daniel.
You should get some sleep.
You look exhausted."
"I found the documents," I said.
Julian's glass stopped halfway to his mouth.
Victoria didn't flinch.
"Those transfers were necessary.
You were unreachable.
Decisions had to be made."
"Maya's signature was forged," I said.
"So was mine."
Julian stood up slowly.
"You don't understand what she is, Daniel.
She was going to r\*n.
Take everything and disappear before the baby came."
I looked at him for a long moment.
"Show me the proof."
He reached for his phone — and that's when I saw it.
A name on his screen.
A contact he hadn't expected me to recognize.
My lawyer.
The one man who had handled every document, every transfer, every signature.
He'd been working with Julian the entire time.
