Chapter 2: The Letter He Left Behind

Part 2 ⬇️

Two men in suits walked through those doors.

Not wedding guests.

Not family friends.

They walked straight past the cake table, past the flower arrangements, past the open bar — and stopped directly behind Vivienne.

The room went completely still.

Vivienne's smile faltered for just a second.

Then she recovered it.

"Fabio, darling, what is this?"

Fabio didn't look at her the way a son looks at his mother.

He looked at her the way a man looks at someone who has run out of time.

"You asked for a proper place today, Mother," he said calmly.

"I'm giving you one."

He reached into his jacket and pulled out a folded envelope.

He set it on the table in front of her.

"That is a letter," he said.

"Written by Dad.

Before he passed."

Vivienne's hand moved toward the envelope — then stopped.

"I don't know what your father told you—"

"He told me everything."

The silence in that ballroom was the loudest thing I had ever heard.

Susan squeezed my hand so hard it hurt.

Vivienne looked at the envelope.

Then at Fabio.

Then at the two men still standing behind her.

Her champagne glass slowly tilted in her hand.

"What exactly," she said very quietly, "do you think you know?"

Fabio looked at her for a long moment.

Then he looked at me.

And for the first time all day, he smiled.

What was in that letter — and what did Fabio's father reveal about Vivienne?

The truth is more shocking than anyone in that room expected.
