Chapter 2: What Melissa Kept in Her Bag

Part 2 ⬇️
The bank transfer was dated fourteen months ago.
The amount was $47,000.
Sent from a joint account — Cameron and Natalie's joint account — directly into a private holding company nobody in the room had ever heard of.
Except Logan.
His jaw tightened the moment the numbers appeared on screen.
Natalie turned to him slowly.
"What is that account?"
Logan said nothing.
"Logan." Her voice cracked.
"What is that account?"
He straightened his jacket and looked at Cameron instead.
"You think this makes you look good?
Doing this here, in front of everyone?"
Cameron's expression didn't change.
"I think it makes the numbers look exactly like what they are."
Another slide appeared.
A second transfer.
Eleven months ago.
Same destination.
$31,000.
Someone near the back of the room whispered something.
A few guests had already moved toward the exit.
Melissa hadn't moved at all.
She was still standing near the cake, both hands pressed flat against her sides, staring at the floor.
Natalie crossed the room toward her.
"Melissa.
Look at me."
Melissa finally looked up.
Her eyes were wet.
"I tried to tell you," she said quietly.
"I tried to tell you six months ago and you didn't want to hear it."
Natalie went still.
"What are you saying?"
Melissa glanced once at Logan.
Then she reached into her bag and pulled out a folded envelope.
"I've been carrying this since March."
---
What's inside that envelope — and why did Melissa wait this long?
The full truth is darker than anyone in that room expected.
