Chapter 2: The Letter That Changed Everything

Part 2 β€” continued in comments πŸ‘‡

---

It was a letter.

One page, handwritten, in George's steady cursive.

Ryan read it twice.

I could tell because his eyes moved back to the top.

"Grandpa, you don't mean this."

"Every word," George said.

I reached over and took the letter gently from Ryan's hands.

The first line stopped me cold.

*"Ryan, I am changing my will.

Effective immediately."*

I kept reading.

George had written that he'd been watching Ryan for months.

Not just tonight.

Months.

The way he spoke to me.

The way he disappeared when things got hard.

The way he treated our home like a hotel and me like staff.

*"A man who won't kneel beside his pregnant wife to build a crib will not inherit what I built on my knees."*

Ryan's jaw tightened.

"This is because of one football game?"

George looked at him for a long moment.

"Son, I've been standing in doorways longer than you know."

Ryan turned to me then β€” and his expression shifted into something I hadn't seen before.

Not shame.

Not guilt.

Something colder.

"You knew he was coming tonight, didn't you?"

Before I could answer, George's phone rang.

He glanced at the screen and went very still.

"I need to take this."

He stepped into the hallway.

When he came back, his face had changed completely.

May you like

"There's something else," he said quietly.

"Something I should have told you both a long time ago."
