Chapter 2: She Will Find Out

Part 2 ⬇️
My hands wouldn't stop shaking.
I picked up the photograph.
It was old — the edges soft, the colors faded.
But that red circle was fresh.
The ink hadn't even fully dried.
Someone had been here recently.
I set it down and looked around the kitchen.
Nothing else seemed disturbed.
Then I saw it — a folded piece of paper tucked under the edge of the photograph.
I opened it.
Four words, written by hand:
*"She will find out."*
No name.
No date.
I stood there reading it three times, trying to make sense of it.
Then I heard the front door open behind me.
I spun around.
A woman stood in the doorway.
Younger than me — maybe sixty.
She was well-dressed, calm, and she looked at me like she had been expecting me.
"You must be her," she said quietly.
"Who are you?" I asked.
She didn't answer that.
Instead, she looked at the photograph still in my hand.
"He talked about you for fifty years," she said.
"Every single year."
My throat tightened.
"Where is Thomas?"
She looked at me for a long moment.
Then she said something that made the room go completely still.
