Chapter 2: The Name on the Screen

Part 2 ⬇️

I pushed myself up.

"Caleb.

What's wrong?"

He didn't answer.

He just kept staring at that tiny mark on her shoulder — a small, dark shape, almost like a crescent.

"Caleb." My voice came out sharper than I meant it to.

"You're scaring me."

He finally looked up.

His eyes were wet, but not the way they'd been a few minutes ago.

This wasn't joy.

This was something else entirely.

"Where did she get this?" he asked quietly.

"What do you mean where did she get it?

She was born with it.

Caleb, she just came out of me thirty minutes ago."

He nodded slowly, but his jaw was tight.

I watched his shoulders.

They were shaking.

"Caleb.

Talk to me.

Right now."

He turned around, and the look on his face stopped me cold.

"My brother has that exact mark," he said.

"In the exact same place."

The room went completely silent.

Then his phone buzzed on the bedside table.

He glanced at the screen — and went still.

The name on the screen was his brother's.
