Chapter 2: The Call Owen Made Before He Died

Part 2 ⬇️
The person I called wasn't a friend.
It wasn't a neighbor.
It was Owen's attorney.
I had his number saved because Owen had made me save it the week after our wedding.
He said, "If anything ever happens to me, you call Marcus first.
Before anyone else.
Before the police, before family.
Marcus first."

I told him what Walter had done.

He said, "Don't move.
Don't sign anything.
I'll be there in twenty minutes."

Neither does anyone you've brought into this home."
Walter's face went the color of old ash.
Tatum appeared at the top of the stairs.
She looked at Walter.
Walter looked at the floor.
Then Marcus turned to me and said quietly, "There's something else.
Something Owen left that I think you need to see today."
He reached into his jacket.
What he pulled out made my breath stop completely.

What was in that envelope — and did Walter know about it all along?
