Chapter 2: The Envelope on the Table

Part 2 — continued from the comments 👇

Iris was screaming.

My arms were shaking.

And something inside me went completely still.

I didn't yell back.

I didn't cry.

I simply walked to the kitchen drawer, pulled out a thick manila envelope, and set it on the table between us.

"What is that?" Diane demanded.

"Open it."

She snatched it up.

I watched her face as she pulled out the first page.

Then the second.

Her lips stopped moving.

It was every bank transfer.

Every wire.

Every text message where she had asked — and I had quietly paid.

Twelve years.

Documented.

Totaled at the bottom in bold print: $94,300.

"You kept records," she whispered.

"I kept everything."

Rachel stepped in from the doorway.

I hadn't even noticed her standing there.

Her face had gone pale.

"Elena, we can talk about this—"

"There's nothing to talk about." I pulled Iris closer.

"I've already spoken to a lawyer.

The transfers stop today.

And if either of you sets foot in this house again without my permission, the next envelope goes to a judge."

Diane's polished finger was still pointing at me.

But her hand had started to tremble.

Then her phone rang.

She looked at the screen.

Something shifted in her expression — something I had never seen before on my mother's face.

Fear.

She stepped outside to answer it.

And through the thin front window, I watched her face collapse completely.

Whatever was on that call…

changed everything.

---

What was on that phone call — and what did Elena's lawyer already know?

The full truth is more shocking than anyone expected.
