Chapter 2: What the Camera Couldn't See

Part 2 ⬇️
It was a small glass vial.
No label.
The liquid inside was almost clear.
Owen's hand tightened around my wrist so hard I nearly dropped it.
"Put it in your pocket," he whispered.
"Don't let the camera see it."
I did exactly what he said.
My fingers were shaking.
He told me the vial wasn't the only one.
That for two years, someone had been introducing a compound into his IV line — just enough to keep him under, not enough to show on a standard tox screen.
Whoever was doing it knew the hospital schedule.
Knew the staff rotation.
Knew exactly when to come and go without being seen.
"Who?" I asked.
Owen's jaw tightened.
He looked toward the door.
"Someone who needs me to stay in this bed," he said.
"Someone who's been signing documents in my name while I couldn't stop them."
Before I could respond, we both heard it.
A keycard swiping the lock.
Owen closed his eyes instantly and went completely still.
I grabbed my mop and turned away from the bed just as the door opened behind me.
I didn't look up.
But I heard the footsteps stop.
And then a voice I recognized said quietly, "You're here late."
It was the bodyguard who was supposed to be protecting Owen.
He was staring directly at me.
---
What does that bodyguard know — and how much danger is she in right now?
The full story reveals a secret that goes all the way to Owen's own family.
