Vivi's grip on Noah tightened as she turned to face her husband.

"Don't look at me like that, Marcus." Her voice was low.

Controlled.

"She's the help.

Noah is confused."

"He called her Mommy." Marcus stepped closer.

"He's never called you that."

Vivi's jaw tightened.

She said nothing.

The woman in uniform was still on the floor.

An older guest — a silver-haired woman near the front — quietly moved toward her and crouched down.

"Are you alright, dear?"

The woman in uniform looked up.

Her cheek was red.

Her eyes were wet.

But her voice, when it came, was steady.

"My name is Lena.

I carried that boy for nine months." She looked directly at Marcus.

"You know that.

You were there."

A sharp sound escaped Vivi's throat.

"She's lying.

She's always been a liar."

But Marcus had gone completely still.

Because he did know.

He had buried it.

Paid to bury it.

Let Vivi convince him it was the right thing.

And now Noah was screaming in Vivi's arms, reaching for Lena with both hands, and every person in that ballroom was watching.

Then someone near the back spoke.

"I have it on video."

Everyone turned.

A young man stood holding up his phone.

His face was pale but his hand was steady.

"Everything.

From the moment she str*ck her."

Vivi's expression cracked for the first time all evening.
