Chapter 2: The Name That Stopped the Room
Damian led Sienna through a private door she hadn't known existed.
The noise of the club disappeared behind thick walls.
They entered a small room — no windows, dark wood, a single lamp.
A leather chair.
A bar cart.
Nothing warm about it.
Damian poured two glasses of water and set one in front of her without a word.
Sienna didn't touch it.
Her throat still burned where Mickey's fingers had been.
"Sit," Damian said.
She sat.
He studied her the way a man studies something that doesn't quite make sense.
"Where did you learn that signal?"
Sienna hesitated.
"My father."
Something shifted in Damian's expression.
Just slightly.
"Your father's name."
"Robert Hayes."
The room went very still.
Silas, standing near the door, looked up sharply.
Damian set his glass down slowly.
"Robert Hayes is your father."
It wasn't a question.
"He was a detective," Sienna said carefully.
"He's not anymore."
Damian said nothing for a long moment.
Then — quietly, almost to himself:
"I knew Robert Hayes."
Sienna's breath caught.
"What do you mean you *knew* him?"
Damian looked at her directly for the first time since they'd entered the room.
"He never told you."
A pause.
"Of course he didn't."
Before Sienna could speak, Damian's phone lit up on the table between them.
He glanced at the screen.
His jaw tightened.
He turned the phone face-down.
"We have a problem," he said quietly.
"Bigger than your brother's debt."
